On paper, Microsoft's Surface Studio is the pinnacle of Windows 10 PCs. IT's an all-in-one computer with a touchscreen to bring i IT function more like a heavyweight tablet, and even packs a supplementary ARM processor typically launch in nomadic devices. Yet despite its modernity, Microsoft stock-still managed to include a nod to the Microcomputer's tradition of DIY upgrades, as recently discovered by iFixit.
Non everything tail end be swapped out—a sad newfound custom in the world of PCs. In fact, almost nothing can. But when iFixit ripped apart the Surface Studio apartment in its latest teardown the site discovered the Studio apartment's onboard storage drives—both the traditional Winchester drive and the m.2 SSD—were replaceable.
The floor behind the story: Another interesting matter to take down about reposition is that the Surface Studio apartment doesn't really have a "hybrid drive," at least non in the orthodox sense of the term. Traditional hybrid drives are singular devices better-known as an SSHD, which means the Winchester drive and flash components both reside internal a single unit of measurement. That's non the case with the Studio. It just has a hard drive with an m.2 SSD stashed in a different location on the motherboard. Nevertheless, you still flummox the advantage of having a combination of quicker flash warehousing and a piercing capacity hard cause in the same simple machine.
Replacing the storage components is no simple task, however. Acquiring at them involves a precarious juggling of the midframe, two fans, a speaker system, and a bunch together of wires.

Unfortunately, aboard storage is where the DIY upgrades end. The Control surface Studio's RAM, CPU, and GPU are soldered to the motherboard.
There's besides a second part of the motherboard stashed in the expose surgical incision of the Studio. The nearly noteworthy feature: iFixit discovered that Microsoft definite to cave in the display a dedicated 32-bit Cerebral mantle M7 processor to help drive its visuals.
